ASTIGMATISM

Astigmatism is a common eye condition that occurs when the cornea or lens of the eye has an irregular shape, leading to blurred or distorted vision. In a normal eye, the cornea and lens are smooth and evenly curved, allowing light to focus precisely on the retina at the back of the eye. However, in astigmatism, the cornea or lens has an uneven curvature, causing light to focus on multiple points rather than a single point.

This results in distorted or blurred vision, and individuals with astigmatism may experience symptoms such as eye strain, headaches, and difficulty seeing clearly at certain distances. Astigmatism can often occur alongside other refractive errors like nearsightedness (myopia) or farsightedness (hyperopia).

Astigmatism can be diagnosed during an eye exam, and corrective measures include eyeglasses or contact lenses with a prescription that compensates for the irregular shape of the cornea or lens.

It's important for individuals experiencing vision problems to have regular eye exams to detect and correct conditions like astigmatism for optimal eye health and clear vision. If you suspect you have astigmatism or any other vision issues, it is advisable to consult with an eye care professional for a comprehensive eye examination.
