INFECTIONS

Infections are caused by the invasion of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites into the body. These microorganisms can enter the body through various routes, including through the air, ingestion of contaminated food or water, direct contact with an infected person, or through vectors like mosquitoes or ticks.

Common types of infections include respiratory infections (such as the common cold, flu, and pneumonia), gastrointestinal infections (like gastroenteritis), skin infections (such as cellulitis and impetigo), urinary tract infections (UTIs), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among others.

Symptoms of infections can vary depending on the type and severity but may include fever, fatigue, coughing, sneezing, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, skin rash, and difficulty breathing, among others.

Treatment for infections typically involves medications such as antibiotics (for bacterial infections), antivirals (for viral infections), antifungals (for fungal infections), and sometimes supportive care to relieve symptoms. Prevention strategies include practicing good hygiene, proper food handling, vaccination, and avoiding contact with known sources of infection.
